Each of the 24 places below has its own page, because an inter-war semi in Kingstanding and a villa in Edgbaston are different jobs. In each of them, we can arrange a free survey and a written quote. Each group carries the name of its council, since that is who answers planning and conservation-area questions.

Birmingham City Council: North

Sutton Coldfield was incorporated as a Royal Town by Henry VIII in 1528 and has its own town council as well as the city council. Erdington grew quickly once its railway stations opened in 1862, and in 1928 the council moved to acquire 450 acres at Kingstanding for 6,700 new municipal houses.

Birmingham City Council: South and West

A large part of Edgbaston falls within the Calthorpe Estate, and Bournville's first 16 homes went up in 1879, with Bournville Village Trust founded in 1900. Moseley grew from around 1860 to the inter-war years, Kings Heath mostly in the early 20th century, and Harborne gained co-partnership housing from 1907. Selly Oak has Victorian and Edwardian terraces, Northfield large areas of 1930s housing, and Kings Norton inter-war belts followed by its post-war "Three Estates". Quinton spread west from Harborne in the 1930s and sits on a council boundary, so check which council covers your street. Hall Green's School Road estate went up between 1933 and 1936.

From the mid-1920s, half of Acocks Green was built on with municipal housing.

Solihull Council

Solihull, Shirley and Knowle are all Solihull Council, and so is Castle Bromwich, which was not part of the 1931 transfer to Birmingham. Knowle keeps 17th-century timber-framed houses at its core.

Sandwell Council

West Bromwich has red-brick terraces from about 1880 to 1910, many with moulded brick above the windows. Bearwood, in Smethwick, was largely built up between about 1900 and 1914.

Walsall Council

Walsall's first council house went up in 1920 on Blakenall Lane. Aldridge began as a brickmaking village.

Dudley Council

Dudley's Priory Estate, built between 1924 and 1933, has mainly casement windows. Halesowen mixes Edwardian timber sash and bay windows with inter-war steel-framed windows.

Describe the job once and one installer from your part of the West Midlands will be in touch to measure and quote.

Windows and Doors Birmingham is an enquiry service. Your enquiry goes to one independent installer, who measures up and quotes for the work themselves; we don't sell, fit or guarantee anything, and we don't vouch for the installer. How we are paid.
